Treatment & Medications
The goal of treatment in Hashimoto’s is to not only relieve symptoms, but also identify the root cause and implement treatment strategies that can reverse the autoimmune process and obtain remission.
The conventional approach is to treat symptoms by using synthetic medications (Synthroid) for the patient’s entire life. At Ageless Integrated Medicine, in addition to providing symptomatic relief, our AIM is to find the cause and eliminate it.
An Integrative Medicine approach to Hypothyroidism utilizes multiple strategies. In addition to taking the appropriate Thyroid medication (Nature Thyroid, Armor thyroid or WP thyroid), additional strategies that include: eliminating certain foods, reducing inflammation, appropriate Vitamins & Minerals (Nutraceutical) supplementation, exercise, stress reduction and detoxification from heavy metals (Mercury and Lead) and petrochemical toxins (Pesticides and PCB’s), are utilized.
Traditionally patients with Hypothyroidism are treated with a medication called Synthroid (Levothyroxine). This medication has only T4 and no T3 (Active hormone).
The normal thyroid Gland produces 93% as T4 (Inactive) and only 7% as T3 (Active). Therefore it is important to use a Thyroid medication that has T4 & T3 in it. At Ageless Integrated Medicine, we have used Nature Thyroid, Armor Thyroid and WP Thyroid with great results.
Nature thyroid, Armor Thyroid and WP Thyroid are derived from Desiccated Porcine Thyroid. We slowly titrate the dose to achieve symptomatic relief and fat loss, but avoid side effects (Palpitations, Anxiety, Insomnia, sweating or Tremors).
